Bad Breadth By E-mail

Bad breadth in older dogs is a common problem. Most owners live
with bad breadth. In this case, I had explained that the dog should
be given dental scaling or treatment at the end of the antibiotic
course.
This advice was forgotten as the bad breadth had disappeared.
I should have given an educational leaflet/report/dental reminder to
owners who have consulted me on dogs with bad breadth. Now, the
owner has to start the antibiotic course all over again, and then,
due to the hectic pace of Singaporean living, forget all about the
dental treatment for her dog!
Till the bad breadth strikes back?

Did you remember that I told you that your dog needs dental scaling or treatment and that the antibiotics
would just be a short-term solution?
I tell every dog owner in such cases that the
antibiotics just eliminate the bad-breath producing
bacteria in the mouth. When the effects are gone, the
bacteria came back again. They are found at the tartar
and infected gum/teeth area and have established
themselves now.
Did you remember that you are to make an appointment
for dental scaling or treatment AT THE END of the
antibiotic course?
Most owners forget about this advice to come for
dental scaling and treatment at the end of the
antibiotic course. Sometimes, they may not be present
during consultation as other family members
/domestic works who have been present do not tell them.
Now, you need to decide what to do.
